The largest tributaries of the Dniester are: Stryi in the upper reaches; Seret, Zbruch, Smotrych and Murafa in the middle reaches; Reut and Byk in the down reaches. In the upper reaches tributaries flow into mainly from the right side, and in the middle Dniester - from the left.

More than 5 million people in Ukraine and more than 2.7 million people in Moldova live now in Dniester basin.

Sources of the Dniester are about ten streams descending from the northern slopes of forested Carpathians. Streams are the same in length and water content, flow into the Dniester very close to the source, that is located on the southwestern slope of Rozluch ridge, near the Vovche village.
